Chapter Fourteen

Aries

I let a huff escape my lips. This has happened more than once, where I don’t even get to speak my side. This was a waste of my time. But I still have my fucking time and I’m going to use it. I worked hard day and night, taking ice baths after ice baths to the point of freezing to soothe my aching muscles I didn’t deserve to work this hard for years, to not even be heard.

“My father was a Khisfire warrior,” I exclaim. “He fought in wars and has trained many, many men and even trained me before his death. He was a good man and most of you probably knew him. My father traveled the world, going to all corners of the world. Sol,” I look to the King Pyrus Galagon Senior. His skin is the darkest, but the most flawless. His wide smile lights up the room. “Where he fell in love with my mother. Texlevia,” King Richard Arnold sits up straighter, “Where he also trained alongside many warriors who were women.”

“So, move there,” King Nova speaks.

My jaw clenches. “Why should I?”

He raises his brow. “We don’t have females in our army.”

I scoff. “Twenty–three.” When there’s silence, I say more, “Twenty–three times I have done this meeting, calmly, to be turned down each time without even the thought of trying to let me be a knight. I worked hard on a speech that I am too angry to remember. Half of the time I don’t even get to say one sentence!”

He lifts his chin.

I roll my eyes. “I have beaten most of your knights, and won against a Meraki warrior yesterday, showing I am worthy of being in your army. I’d be the best fucking knight you’d ever have. Yet I deal with this? You’ve never listened to one sentence from me–surprised you’re listening now. You don’t want me. It’s your loss. I’m the best warrior around and that is not an understatement.” My chest is rising and falling in frustration. I so desperately want to leave, but I want to hear what he had to say.

But he is silent because he knows I’m correct, but he’s too much of a bastard to change his mind in front of the other kings.

I let out a scoff. “You’ll regret this.” I shake my head, turning around and storming out.

The double door hits the wall as they swing open.

Alistair stands, but his smile falls from his face when he analyzes mine. He follows me. “How many said no?”

“One,” I mutter, not in the mood to see any more men. My day sucked as is, waking up to find him gone, this, and my fucking horse stolen. Honestly, I don’t know which is worse.

I hear him sigh loudly. “Old sons of bitches. Is there anything I can say or do?”

My head shakes as I make it back to the front door. Snow dances in the air, spinning and twirling until it finally finishes on the ground. “No. King Nova will always be stuck in his ways.
